La carencia de un centro en el que reunirse, trabajar, exhibir y comercializar sus producciones impulsó a los artistas valencianos a crear en 1889 la Sociedad Valenciana de Bellas Artes. No obstante su breve vida -hasta 1891-, la importancia de este centro artístico reside en haber sido el germen del Círculo de Bellas Artes de Valencia, una de las sociedades culturales más activas desde finales del ochocientos.
